It takes something special to persuade me to sit in a draughty church on a Sunday, rather than watch the Strictly Come Dancing results show. This concert did not disappoint. We were treated to a selection of songs from Brighton’s marvellous Rainbow Chorus and a duo performing pieces on the flute and harp. The second half featured a dramatic performance of Carmina Burana by the Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, with a darkened church adding to the atmosphere. The event marked World AIDS Day and was sponsored by Age Concern, who are campaiging to raise awareness of the problems faced by elderly gay people who lack family networks. The church was full to capacity, so it’s a shame the ticket price wasn’t higher and that there were no refreshments available. There was a good opportunity to make a significant amount of money for two very worthy causes.
