needed a book following the fallen woman for an essay and wanted something different from our reading list. I thoroughly enjoyed Tess by Hardy but soo many students chose it. I think Esther sounds fantastic as its a similar theme and contains the focus of the strong female charcter who falls from grace due to promiscuity. A very helpful review. Will have to pop to the library now. thanx

According to my records I have had this book on my shelves for nearly 24 years now and I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for reminding me of it. It seems an interesting and worthwhile read.
