Yes, it’s just the one recently, as I’m still on my best behaviour with regard to not buying books. However, an excellent bookseller by the name of Richard Beaton contacted me to say that he was selling a copy of Florence Marryat’s The Dead Man’s Message. As I’m in the process of publishing a critical edition of this novella, his timely intervention has saved me pegging off to the British Library for yet another proof-reading session. He had also discovered that this work was republished four years later under the name of A Soul on Fire. In that case, Ms Marryat wrote *only* 89 novels. Lightweight.
Stay tuned for more details of my forthcoming book.
